Listens to the belly
The microphone in the phone's bottom edge picks up body sounds, and the app looks for the baby's steady rhythm in them.
Tells mom apart
Mom's pulse is taken from a finger on the rear camera. A rhythm that follows her heartbeat is not counted as the baby.
Helps you search
«Warmer / colder», a contact bar and a belly map centred on the navel, with an arrow back to where the baby was found.
Lets you listen
Cleaned-up sound in headphones. If the sound leaks back into the microphone, the volume goes down by itself.
How to use
- Mom lies on her back, somewhere quiet. This is the best position to start.
- Press «Старт» (Start), then put the phone on the navel: bottom edge down, perpendicular to the belly, screen towards you, still for 2 seconds. The app remembers the centre and detects the posture.
- Finger on the rear camera and «❤ Палец» (Finger): this is how the app knows mom's pulse.
- Move the phone slowly over the belly and stay about 30 seconds on each spot. The heart is most often heard below the navel, on the side of the baby's back.
- Watch the «контакт» (contact) bar: the edge must touch the skin firmly.
- «🎧 Слушать» (Listen) plays the sound in headphones. Regular earbuds are better: bone-conduction headphones send the sound through the body straight into the microphone.
- Stop: press and hold the button.
How well it works
- A research check of the algorithm on the open FetalCareDB recordings, where every baby heartbeat is marked: when it says «stable», the rate is within ±8 bpm in 93–96% of cases. This is not a medical performance claim.
- It does not always find the baby: in 93% of the time when mom's pulse is known, and in 26–79% without it.
- Live testing so far: one family, around 40 weeks, two Xiaomi phones. There have been no clinical trials.
- It may work worse for other mothers, gestational ages and phones. That is exactly why recordings from many mothers are needed.
Privacy
Everything is computed on the phone. The app sends nothing to the internet or to the developers. Recordings stay only in the app folder on your phone and are deleted with the app. A computer on your home network is connected only if you do it yourself. Details: privacy policy (in Russian).
Help science
For the app to work for different mothers, and one day to notice abnormalities, we need recordings from many pregnant women together with a reference (a Doppler or CTG at the same time). Taking part is voluntary and unpaid. The project is altruistic: nobody pays or gets paid, and there is no commercial gain. Recordings are published only without names, and only for non-commercial research.
